Background Dr Carol Ohen hails from Abavo in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. She had her secondary Education in Mary Mount College, Agbor from where she finished in 1978. She did her compulsory One-Year-Abroad Programme in Université de Langues et Lettres, Grenoble 111, France, between 1981 and 1982. She obtained her first degree in French from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1983. She later went to University of Benin, Benin-City, where she obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 1986 and a Master’s degree in French in the year 2000. Her quest for education made her to go for a third degree in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State from where she bagged a Ph.D in French in 2015. Career Dr Carol Ohen taught French in Gbenoba Grammar School, Agbor between 1985 and 1992 where she headed the department for five years. In 1992, she took up a fresh appointment in the defunct College of Education, Agbor where she taught French too. In the College, she served in various committees and held many administrative positions. She was a two-time Head of French Department, a two-time Dean of the School of Languages, a two-time Director of TETfund Research and Development and a two-time Director of Academic Planning. She was a Chief Lecturer in the College for more than a decade. Dr Mrs Ohen has been a resource person for French language in Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) since 1998. She was Editor-in-Chief, INTER-CAFT Revue and Editor to some other national journals. For a long time, she has been an External Assessor for the promotion of Principal and Chief Lecturers in some Colleges of Education and Polytechnics. She was also an External Moderator to some French departments in other Colleges of Education. She served as a Member of National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) Accreditation Team. She also took part in the NCCE team for the Review of NCE Minimum Standards for Languages in 2018. She equally took part in the NCCE Review of 2012 Edition of NCE Curriculum Implementation Framework in 2019. She has published scholarly articles in renowned national and international journals. Her research interests are in African Literature with French Expression, Language Education and French as a Foreign Language (Français Langue Etrangère- FLE). With the upgrade of College of Education, Agbor to a university by the Delta State Government in February, 2021, Dr Mrs Ohen was absorbed as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Languages (French Unit), Faculty of Arts, University of Delta, Agbor. The same year, she was appointed a member, representing the Faculty of Arts in University Admissions Board (UAB). In January, 2022, she was appointed the Vice Chancellor’s Representative, Owa Alero Campus of the University. Dr Ohen is the Editor-in-Chief and Chairman of the Editorial Board of the soon-to-be-unveiled Faculty Journal, University of Delta Journal of Arts and Humanities (UDJAH). Currently, she is the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts She serves as a member of some important committees while she is the chairman of some others in the University. AWARDS Dr Carol Ohen has received different scholarships and awards. As an undergraduate, she was among the five students who represented University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in an Inter-University French competition. They performed so well that the French Embassy in Nigeria gave them a one-month scholarship to Cameroun in 1980. As a French lecturer, she has equally received several scholarships from the French Government to travel to Lomé, Togo; Montpellier, France, and two times to Besançon, France. She has also received several awards of Excellence in Education and Human Resource Development by the School of Languages, defunct College of Education, Agbor; Inter-College Association of French Teachers (INTER-CAFT), Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), South-South zone, to mention but a few. PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS Dr Carol Ohen belongs to some professional bodies like the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), University French Teachers Association of Nigeria (UFTAN), Linguistic Association of Nigeria (LAN).Modern Languages Association of Nigeria (MLAN). She is also a member, Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), a member, International Institute on Research and Development, member, Strategic Institute for National Resources and Human Development, etc. As a way of rendering service to the community, she was a member of National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) and was, in fact. the Chairman of WICE, Agbor Chapter from 2009 to 2013.
